No major change is expected in the field of higher education if the United Kingdom leaves the European Union. Recognition for the purpose of further education is not subject to European Union law, so the rules on the recognition of qualifications will remain unchanged.

Contingency measures ensuring the partial continuation of the Erasmus+ programme as well as preventing the disruption of Erasmus+ learning mobility activities involving the United Kingdom have been adopted with the Regulation (EU) 2019/499 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 March 2019 laying down provisions for the continuation of ongoing learning mobility activities under the Erasmus+ programme established by Regulation (EU) No 1288/2013, in the context of the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the Union.

Hungarian higher education remains open to British citizens, however, they cannot benefit from the opportunities available only to Hungarian and EU citizens, such as courses under the state stipend programme in the case of reciprocity.
