Following the withdrawal of the United Kingdom form the EU, in line with the EU timber regulation (Regulation (EU) No 995/2010), the UK will become a third country from 1 January 2021. Therefore, domestic importers of timber products from the UK will become so-called operators, instead of their former trader position, and they must implement a higher level of risk assessment and risk mitigation measures as the country will not remain a member of the common market.
Given that imports and exports of timber products between Hungary and the UK are not very significant, the increased administrative burden is expected to affect only a small number of new operators, or that volume can be replaced from other EU Member States as needed.
